Koh Gen Do Moisture Concealer: Swatches & Review
I’ve bought new concealer recently, this time it’s Koh Gen Do Moisture Concealer. I’ve noticed this brand when it launched in Sephora some time ago. There were also several promising reviews in beauty-blogs I trust, so I decided to try some products of this brand.
Brief Brand Description: «It started with a search for natural skin protection, blossomed into an innovative skincare line, and eventually became a collection of high-performance makeup. Created by actress Ai Saotome 25 years ago, Koh Gen Do began as a skincare collection based on traditional Asian botanicals and homeopathy. The results and responses were so positive that she decided to integrate this innovative concept into a glamorous, eco-friendly makeup line. The products, created specifically for hi-def cameras.»
Moisture Concealer — is actually a kit that consists of three concealer shades. It can be used to hide all kinds of discolorations on your face like dark circles, pimples and some redness. It can be used to highlight certain areas. Application is very thin and soft, it seems to thin when I applied it for the first time. But you can add layers and vary the coverage. So actually you can get light to almost full coverage. Only for very-very dark circles I’d recommend to use stronger creamy concealer. I can’t comment on moisturizing and skin care effects though I can say that my skin under this concealer doesn’t feel dry at all. I feel I don’t need to use loose powder to set it, it will last for a long time just as is. This concealer doesn’t gather around your eyes or in your fine lines, because you apply just s tiny amount of it.
The packaging is nice and simple. The box contains a mirror and a small retractable brush that actually can be used for good when you travel. But I prefer to use Bobbi Brown concealer brush in full size when I apply my morning makeup.
Ingredients: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate, Synthetic Wax, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Tocopherol, Squalane, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Perilla Ocymoides Seed Oil, Palmitoyl Proline, Butylene Glycol, Silk Powder, Water, Glycerin, Sodium Palmitoyl Sarcosinate, Magnesium Palmitoyl Glutamate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Palmitic Acid, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Flower Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract (+/-) Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Mica, Talc, Barium Sulfate, Ultramarines, Silica, Tin Oxide, Aluminum Hydroxide, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer.
The kit comes with three colors of concealer. I call them light (1), medium (2) and dark (3). But actually they are all very light. The darkest is almost a match to my creamy concealer Bobbi Brown «Cool Sand». Unfortunately these are the only shades on concealer that you can find in Koh Gen Do. If you have medium to dark skin tone, this product is not for you.
All shades are perfect for me. I use them mostly under and around my eyes to highlight and cover dark circles. Sometimes I mix few colors to cover small imperfections on my face.
Availability: US and Japan, see official store locator.
Price: 54$ per 4 gr.
Final Thoughts: it’s a great multi-functional concealer kit that allows you to hide any discolorations of your face, e.g. under eye circles, imperfections, to highlight certain areas etc. It applies with a very thin layer, but you actually can vary the coverage. The price tag looks high, but if all colors a perfect for you, you’ll get 4 gr of concealer for 4$, while you have 1.4 gr for 22$ when you buy Bobbi Brown’s concealer for example.
Unfortunately it comes in three colors only and will be suitable for only very light skin tones. Product availability is geographically limited, so it won’t become a replacement for all concelears you’ve ever had. Though I wish it will match to your skin, cause it is just perfect in action.
